Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure
ODD SHAPED ENCLOSURE USING NX CAD
OBJECTIVES: In this tutorial we will learn the recommended workflow procedure to design a ‘Sheet Metal part for Odd Shapes’ using Siemens NX Sheet Metal Application.
INTRODUCTION: Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel."
APPROACH:

PROCEDURE:
STEP 1: Start NX CAD. Then set the global parameters as per requirements. Menu-->Preferences-->Sheet metal
STEP 2: Design a base sketch to form a solid profile and extrude it.
EXTRUDE: Extrude is a method of defining three-dimensional geometry by translating a two-dimensional sketch normal to the sketch plane.
STEP 3: Convert it into sheet metal using sheet metal from solid.
SHEET METAL FROM SOLID: This tool is used to convert the solid profile into sheet metal.
STEP 4: After forming it into a sheet metal add flange & jog to form a profile After forming it into a sheet metal, add flange & jog to form a profile.
FLANGE: The flange feature creates a flat bended profile at an angle to a planar face.
JOG: The Jog is used to create a flange by lifting the material on one side of the sketch line drawn.
STEP 5: After creating flange, unbend the profile with the use of Unbend option.
UNBEND: This feature is simply used to flatten the bended profile.
STEP 6: After that, create a sketch for creating a beads. Then select bead option with circular cross section and give proper radius and depth.
BEADS: Beads is used to lift a material along the contour of the sketch.
STEP 7: Now, sketch six reference points for holes on profile which was unbend before. Then create holes with their respective hole size and fit.
HOLE: A hole feature is used to create a holes on the model which is mostly used for assembling & mounting.
STEP 8: Finally rebend the model to get the bended view of the model.
REBEND: Rebend is used to restore the model to its bended state.
STEP 9: After rebending create a flat pattern view of the model for drafting purpose.
FLAT PATTERN: Flat pattern is used to create a flat pattern view which is used for drafting purpose since it was required for manufacturing purposes like lasercut etc.
Different Views of the model:
1)Front View:-

2) Right Side View:-

3) Top View:-

4) Isometric View:-

Conclusion: Thus the Odd Shaped Enclosure has been designed with the use of NX CAD tool and learned about feature involved in creating the sheet metal model.
