Wheel Arch Challenge
Wheelarch Area:-
Wheelarch area is the gap between the outer edge of the fender and the outer edge of the wheel. It is an important design consideration for the fender design because of pedestrain safety.while driving car on the road there are some particles like small stones,water,mud etc which comes in contact with the grip of the trye and thrown back towards back side the force is so high that it damages the car body if the wheel is outside the outer edge of the fender.
In order to avoid this problem the wheel is mainly placed inside the wheelarch area for this we follow various standard of wheelarch in different region. For japanese standard,there should be 5mm gap between the wheel fender arc and the wheel surface and for European standard the gap between the wheel fender arc and the wheel surface is 10mm.
According to European Regualtion :-
According to European standard the minimum distance between wheel fender arc and the wheel surface is 10mm .Therefore our main objective is to maintain the gap between fender and wheel surface.So the need is to check whether the distance is 10mm or more at all the 5 points as per European standard.
The above diagram shows the description of measurement of different points.Similarly i have checked the measurement of differnt values and the result is shown below:-
After measurement i found gap at 5 different points as:-
- SB=10mm
- SA=9.949mm
- SC=2.966mm
- SD=0.225mm
- SE=3.154mm

Therefore we can see that only one value that is SB which satisfies European standard hence the conclusion is that the gven design can not be permitted for further approval and for passing fender design we have to do some adjustment and change the curve of the fender so that atleast minimum of 10mm gap should be there between fender arc and wheel surface.
