Project

WELDED JOINTS

AIM

TO Verify the joints for different materials.

OBJECTIVE

To perform static structural analysis on welding joints using three different materials and to compare the results like directional deformation, stress generated on welded joints and strain developed.

Model

IMPORT

\"\"

Weld materials

  1. Stainless steel
  2. Bronze,Cast
  3. Aluminium alloy(high strength,wrought)

Meshing

For the big plate and small plate used face mesh of 7mm and remaining is default size used.

Constraints used

Load:- 15000n

Frictional co efficient:- 0.2

large deflection:- ON

After giving all constraints run the simulatio.

results are given below,

Case1(welding materials and rest are stainless steel)

Directional deformation

\"\"\"\"

Equivalent strain

\"\"\"\"

Stress(weld joints)

\"\"\"\"

maximum stress occurs at the weld joints connected to rib and small plate.

\"\"

Case2(welding material is aluminium alloy(high strength, wrought) and rest are stainless steel)

Directional deformation

\"\"\"\"

Equivalent strain

\"\"\"\"

Stress(weld joints)

\"\"\"\"

maximum stress occurs at the weld joints connected to rib and small plate.

\"\"

Case3(welding material is bronze, plates are stainless steel, ribs of copper)

Directional deformation

\"\"\"\"

Equivalent strain

\"\"\"\"

Stress(weld joints)

\"\"\"\"

maximum stress occurs at the weld joints connected to rib and small plate.

Aluminium alloy(high strength,wrought)

Directional deformation max

0.35137 mm

0.39579 mm

0.36545 mm

Directional deformation min

-3.3087e-002 mm

-2.7811e-002 mm

-3.229e-002 mm

Equivalent strain max

3.2904e-003 mm/mm

3.4126e-003 mm/mm

Equivalent strain min

8.282e-007 mm/mm

6.9304e-007 mm/mm

9.3914e-007 mm/mm

Stress(weld joints) max

302.12 MPa

262.87 MPa

251.62 MPa

Stress(weld joints) min

1.7939 MPa

1.3587 MPa

1.2362 MPa

Conclusions

  • Directional deformation in bronze are higher compare to other materials because of its low yield and tensile strength, sice it cannot hold higher load.
  • Stress distribution in stainless is higher compared to other materials.
  • Equivalent strian in stainless steel is very lower compared to bronze and aluminim, where aluminium have the highest results values and bronze have moderate values.
  • From all the observations it is evident that max stress will occur at the weld joints where the load is applied i.e at the joint of small plates and ribs, it is observed as same in all three cases.
