Turbocharger meshing
Objective: To create the hexamesh in the turbocharger model for CFD analysis.
Procedure: Inthis procedure we are going to create a hexamesh of some of the components of the turbocharger.
See figure 1,this is the turbocharger model which we need to mesh .
Figure 1
Now we are going to pick a part of the turbocharger model, see figure 2.
Figure 2
Now isolate that part and it looks like figure 3.
Figure 3
Check for the error in the geometry if any.
Now go to the mesh module and mesh the front surface of the part shown in figure 4.
Figure 4
Now we have to sweep this mesh to the end point,For this create a curve as shown in figure 5.
Figure 5
Now Go to the volume mesh module and there we have to sekect the sweep command and sweep the mesh with the guidline which we have created just now.See figure 6.
.
Figure 6
Click OK and we have created the hexamesh as shown in figure 7.
Figure 7
Now move on to the next part of the turbocharger model, see figure 8 ,this the shaft of the turbocharger which we have to mesh.
Figure 8
Now we have to half the assembly and then create the surface on one half of the surface and then revolve the mesh using the sweep command.
See figure 9,we have isolated the one of the shaft assembly.
Figure 9
Now patch the half surface where we can generate the mesh.See figure 10.
Figure 10
Now generate the surface mesh on one side of the shaft ,see figure 11.
Figure 11
Now sweep this mesh in the circular direction as reference with the dia of the shaft and then the hexamesh thus created would then be rotated to form the complete shaft assembly using the Transform :- Copy:-Rotate command.See figure 12.
Figure 12.
In this way the hexamesh can be created.
Learning objective:- In this project we learned how the hexamesh has been generated which is of the excellent quality.
Conclusion:- Hexamesh are more preferable than pentamesh mesh for the CFD analysis because it provides faster calculation to the solver and provides a good flexibility to the geometry.
