Tool Test- Intake Manifold
Objective:
To mesh the intake manifold as per the specified quality criteria
Quality Parameters:
Target Length:5
Minimum Length:3
Maximum Length:7
Tetcolapse:0.2
Time Taken:3 hrs 50 mins
Methodology:
Geometry :
The given geometry is shown in the figure below:
The resolution of part is changed and made finer in order to check the design quality of the part.
The orientation of the faces is changed using the orient option
The geometry check is performed:
Meshing:
The surface mesh is created.
The quality of the mesh parameters are set for both the surface mesh and solid mesh are created. The type of mesh is set to ortho tria.
The spot mesh is used to generate the mesh surface by surface. The curved surfaces are meshed with ortho tria elements and the mesh is generated first. The meshed surfaces are hidden anf the flat surfaces are meshed with the tria elements.
The number of elements are changed on the circular parts using the number options in the surface mesh tab.
The number of elements on the circles are set as per the diameter. The number of elements are increased as the diameter is increased.
The hidden mode is activated and the quality of the surface mesh is checked. The quality is improved using the reconstruct, remesh and the MV surface options.
The surface mesh is as shown in the figure below:
In order to generate the volume mesh a volume has to be created. This is done using the define volume option in the volume mesh tab.
The volume is meshed using the Tetra FEM option.
The quality of the volume elements is improved by turning off the CAD and FE.
The volume mesh is as in the figure below:
Conclusion:
The volume mesh is generated.
