TRANSIENT ANALYSIS ON UNIVERSAL JOINT
Objective :
Perform a transient structural analysis on a double universal joint with a spring using three different materials, to obtain the Equivalent stress and total deformation for all the three cases and compare results.
Geometry :
The given geometry was imported in transient structure.
Materials :
1.structural steel
2.stainless steel
3.titanium alloy
above mentioned materials used for spring joint only, remaining parts used structural steel.
Body to body Revolute joints :
There are 8 body to body revolte joints created between the universal joints and shaft
Reference bodies :
Mobile bodies :
Body to ground revoluted joints :
Two body to ground revoluted joints created to shafts .
Fixed support :
The spring is fixed.
Joint load :
For rotation of shaft the joint load is created.
Analysis settings :
Case 1 : spring material is structural steel.
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Total Deformation :
Case 2 : spring material is stainless steel.
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Total Deformation :
Case 3 : spring material is titanium steel.
Equivalent stress :
Equivalent elastic strain :
Total Deformation :
Comparision of Results :
- By comparing equivalent stress in all cases structural steel have high stress and titanium alloy have lowest stress and among structural and stain less steel don’t have much difference in min and max values.
- On comparing the ealstic strain there is no much difference between the all three materials.
- On comparing total deformation there is no difference on with all three materials.
