MOTION ANALYSIS ON PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY
TITLE: MOTION ANALYSIS ON PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY WITH A CARRIER
Introduction:-
Assembly consists of 4 components which are:
- Carrier
- Sun Gear
- Planet Gear
- Ring Gear
Based on which gear is fixed , there can be diff. motions involved and thus it has lot of applications. For example :This type of gearing is sometimes used in tractors and construction equipment to provide high torque to the drive wheels. In bicycle hub gears, the sun is usually stationary, being keyed to the axle or even machined directly onto it. The planetary gear carrier is used as input.
Objective:-
In this problem we were given following things
- Module of ring gear
- No. of teaths of ring and sun gear
- no. of planetory gears
- Input speed
Based on the given info we had to find the rest of the things which is important in designing of the three gears and the carrier.
Further we had to do motion study for the following 3 cases and plot the anguular velocity for the output link
Calculation of gear parameters:-
- The module (m) of all the gears remains same
- D=m*t where, D - Pitch diameter m- module t - No. of teeth
- based on geometry, there is another relationship which is Dia of ring/2 = dia of sun/2 + dia of planetary
using these, we calculated further details
Modelling:-
carrier
ring gear
sun gear
planetary gear
CASE 1:
(RING GEAR FIXED)
CASE 2:
CASE 3:
Conclusion :-
In each case, the input speed of 200 rpm is given to the input and which is transmitted to output gear.
Here we can make the plot more smooth and informative by incrreasing frame per second from 200 to 1200. and also precise contact can be used to to avoid the deviations being occured due to sliding btw gear teath taking place.

2. (ring gear fixed)
