Project

Study on the performance of the Centrifugal Pump with the change in Outlet Pressure and mass flow rate

Aim: -

Design and Analysis Centrifugal pump.

Objectives: -

Obtain the relationship between Pressure ratio and mass flow rate.

Centrifugal Pump: -

Centrifugal pumps are a sub-class of dynamic axisymmetric work-absorbing turbomachinery. Centrifugal pumps are used to transport fluids by the conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near to the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber (casing), from where it exits.

Common uses include water, sewage, agriculture, petroleum and petrochemical pumping. Centrifugal pumps are often chosen for their high flow rate capabilities, abrasive solution compatibility, mixing potential, as well as their relatively simple engineering.

Design of Centrifugal Pump: -

For Designing the Centrifugal Pump, I used the below mentioned dimensions. These dimensions are taken from the research paper mentioned in the reference section mentioned at the end of this project.

Dimensions of the Impeller:

\"Impeller\"

All Dimensions are in mm

Dimensions of the Volute:

\"Volute\"

All Dimensions are in mm

Simulation: -

For simulating the flow the below conditions where defined

\"\"

Then I defined the no of Iterations and the bodies to be considered for the simulation.

The boundary Conditions where defined as per the below table

Finally Simulation was run.

As we can see from the above, we can come to a conclusion that as the mass flow rate starts stbilising the pressure ratio of the centrifugal pump decreases.
