SUNSEEKER PREDATOR YACHT

PREDATOR YACHT

AIM AND OBJECTIVE:

  • To model and assemble various parts of predator yacht using solid works.

PARTS TO BE MODELED:

  • Propeller
  • Radar
  • Hull
  • Garage door
  • Rear seat
  • Front seat
  • Middle seat
  • Super structure

COMANDS USED TO CREATE YATCH:

SKETCH:

  • Sketch is basically a 2d representation of particular form of certain views such as front, top or side view. A sketch contains various tools such as line circle rectangle etc.

REVOLE:

  • Revolve is the process of making a revolved surface or solid with a sketch and with respect to a reference line or an axis. The revolve can be made to any desired angle.

LOFT:

  • Creates a 3d solid or surface with the help of specified cross sections. At least two cross sections has to be specified in order to get a loft. The cross sections can either be planer or non-planer.

EXTRUDE CUT:

  • An extrude cut is used to remove unwanted material from a solid in any direction as required.

FILLET:

  • Fillet is the process of creating a round edge in the corner of objects o reduce the stress concentration.

BOSS EXTRUDE:

  • The boss extrude is a command used to create a solid out of the given sketch geometry in any direction.

MIRROR:

  • It’s a feature which is used to create an exact replica o the sketch created with respect to a reference geometry such as a plane or a line.

SKETCH PATTERN:

  • A sketch pattern is used to create a number of same sketches of entities along a particular direction with help of a reference geometry.

SPLIT LINE:

  • It’s a feature in which we can project a sketch on a particular face or surface. It separates a particular face to different parts.

OFFSET:

  • An offset command is used to create a certain replica of a sketch with some distance in between them.

DOME:

  • Dome, in architecture, hemispherical structure evolved from the arc, usually used to form a ceiling o roof over a selected face or surface.

EXTRUDE CUT:

  • An extrude cut is used to remove unwanted material from a solid in an direction as required.

SPLIT:

  • A split is used to split a single surface to any number of surfaces as required.

TRIM:

  • The trim command is used to remove the unwanted portions of a sketch.

SHELL:

  • The shell command is used to create a thickened surface, either it can be done in interior or exterior surface.

COMBINE:

  • The combine feature is used to merge two or more features into single feature.

PATTERN:

  • The pattern in solid works feature helps us to create the similar geometry up to user defined instances. With the help of some references.

CHAMFER:

  • The chamfer feature creates a beveled feature on an edge, face or a surface.

PROJECTED CURVE:

  • A projected curve is a 3rd curve created with the help of 2 or more 2d sketches from different plane.

DELETE FACE:

  • It’s a command used to delete a face from a solid.

SURFACE EXTEND:

  • It’s a command which is used to extend an open or incomplete surface upto the next surface body with a particular relation.

FILL SURFACE:

  • In this command we can create a surface by providing a set of edges which forms a closed area.

KNIT:

  • It is a command which is used to stich two surface to each other considering tolerances.

PROPELLER

A propeller is a fan type structure which is designed in such a way to propel the boat forward. The transmitted power is converted from rotary type to thrust to propel it.

COMANDS USED TO CREATE PROPELLER:

  • Sketch
  • Revolve
  • Lofted base
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular pattern

RADAR

A radar is a system attached on top of the shop to transmit and receive signals several meters of range. It is basically ranging and detecting system which is used in every ship.

COMMANDS USED IN RADAR:

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrudes
  • Fillet
  • Cut extrude
  • Sketch pattern
  • Mirror
  • Split line

HULL

Hull is a part which is in contact with water body. The hull is supposed to be made watertight. The portion of hull which is in contact to the last surface point o water is called water line.

COMMANDS USED IN HULL:

  • Sketch
  • Projected curve
  • Lofted surface
  • Fill surface
  • Surface extrudes
  • Surface trim
  • Surface extends
  • Shell
  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Sweep
  • Plane
  • Dome
  • Helix
  • Linear pattern
  • Delete face
  • Curve
  • Revolve
  • Combine

GARRAGE DOOR

A garage door is a big door attached behind, which either operates manually or with a motor. A garage is usually used to store automobiles in a yacht.

COMMANDS USED IN GARRAGE DOOR:

  • Sketch
  • Ct extrude
  • Fillet
  • Mirror

REAR SEAT

The rear seat is made for seating purpose. It is placed at the rear side of the yacht.

Commands Used To Create Rear Seat:

  • Sketch
  • Surface sweep
  • Surface offset
  • Surface trim
  • Rules surface
  • Surface knit
  • Surface extend
  • Surface loft
  • Boss extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Revolve

FRONT SEAT

A front seat is made for seating purpose and it is placed on the front side of the yacht.

Features Used To Create The Front Seat:

  • Sketch
  • Sweep surface
  • Surface trim
  • Surface extrude
  • Knit
  • Surface loft
  • Revolve
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Dome
  • Mirror

MIDDLE SEAT

A middle seat is used in the middle portion of the yacht for seating purpose.

COMMANDS USEDIN CREATING MIDDLE SEAT

  • Sketch
  • Boss extrude
  • Cut extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Mirror

SUPER STRUCTURE

This is the art which emerges from the deck. It consists all kind of building and infrastructures of the yacht.

FEATURES USED TO CREATE SUPER STRUCTURE:

  • Sketch
  • Surface extrude
  • Ruled surface
  • Surface sweep
  • Knit
  • Cut extrude
  • Loft surface
  • Extrude thin
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Combine
  • Sweep
  • Dome
  • Combine

9 RADAR MAST

It’s a mechanism used for the navigation of the ship. This also supports the life boats and other accessory of the ship.

FEATURES USED TO CREATE RADAR MAST:

  • Sketch
  • Revolve
  • Boss extrude sweep
  • Shell
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Mirror

ASSEMBLY OF YACHT

The yacht assembly is done in the assembly environment.

All the parts which are made previously are loaded in the environment and placed at their respective positions with the help of different kind of mates with suitable references for each mates such as planes or faces.

MATES

  • Mates ae used to create relationship within the assembly with different parts.
  • As the mates are defined, we define the degree o freedom of that respective mated part.

FINAL RENDERS

CONCLUSION

All the parts of the yacht are modelled and assembled using solid works (2020) successfully.

OUTCOME OF THE COURSE

Understanding the basics of solid works and using it in part modelling and surface modelling.
