Preprocessor for Structural Analysis of INTAKE MANIFOLD by using ANSA
AIM:- To check for the geometrical error, mesh the Intake manifold with the given quality criteria and using tetra elements for the volume mesh.
PROCEDURE:-
This model is Intake Manifold which is a part of engine that supplies air/fuel mixture to the cylinders.
1.) Geometry error and cleanup:-
As we see geometry errors are not there in this model, so it is a clean model.
But there is some surface disturbance in cad of the model which we have to fix with proper placement of the cons.
2.) Quality criteria and Mesh properties:-
First, we have to surface mesh the model for that we have only two quality that is min and max length.
3.) Meshing:-
We have to mesh the surface first that is with ortho tria for the curve and then tria for the flat. Ortho tria for the curve because it gives best mesh result then tria on the curve.
we first meshed curve section one by one and reconstruct them for proper results MESH > SHELL.MESH > RECONSTRUCTION > SELECT and then use SMOOTH for the better visible flow of the mesh pattern.
Then we moved to the flat surface for meshing by tria. By MESH > MESH GENERATION > SPOT MESH > SELECT then selecting all flat surface section at once. As shown in the below figures.
Now, we have done with the surface mesh and we can see in the white box how many tria elements has been created.
4.) Define and Assign Volume:-
Now the model which we have has only the shell property and not solid property. So first step is we have to define the solid property to the model by V.MESH > DEFINE > MANUAL then selecting the whole model and then right clicking in the property tab which occurs NEW > PSOLID. This is the way to define the model as shown below.
Now, after defining we have to assign the model and mesh it with the volume. By V.MESH > VOLUMES > LIST, a volume tab open where we have had the option to mesh and a further option is to mesh it with Tetra Rapid or Tetra FEM it depends on us.
We have one more quality which has to apply to the volume mesh model that is Collapse.
In the above figure, we can see in the black box volume option that how many elements are failing the collapse quality. It is solved all at once by V.MESH > IMPROVE > FIX.QUALITY > VISIBLE.
The above figure shows the tetra element of the model we meshed.
CONCLUSION:-
1.) Cleanup the error and fixing the surface disturbance.
2.) Defining and Assigning for volume mesh with tetra elements.
3.) Checked for raised and kinks on volume meshed surface.
