NX Box Assembly
Objective:
To design a sheet metal box assembly using NX_CAD
Introduction:
Sheet metal is a metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. One of the most fundamental forms used in metalworking and can be cut and bent into a variety of different shapes. It can be seen used in designing automobiles, aircraft bodies, utensils, and beverage cans.
Design Methodology:
Sketch – Tab – Design Parameters – Flanges were created – Closed Corners- Hem Flanges were created to create the interlock loop – Body was mirrored to create the extension – United to form the two parts together – Move Curve - Dimple – Beads – Tab to create hinge – Break Corners – Unbend - Normal Cutout – Re bend – mirror body -unbend – break corner- normal cutout – Re bend
Methods:
Tab: To sketch the sheet metal and giving it the required thickness. Design parameters: Parameters added before sketching your required sheet metal. Closed Corners: to create adjacent bends into a whole part or piece. Hem Flange: To create an open or closed loop. Quick Trim: To alter down specific dimensions. Move Curve: To create a dimension and giving it specific angles to move it around. Mirror body: To create a copy of the feature or body into a selected plane. Unite: To create two specific bodies into one. Normal cutout: To make a cutout through your sketched body. Bending: To bend your extruded body with the required angle and length. Flanges: To create a flange on the required body. Breaking corners: To give smooth cuts on the edges. Dimple: to have a formed shape on your body. Beads: to create formed shaped with required parameters. Re-bend: to re-bend the unbend body.

Conclusions:
With the right set of skills and knowledge, you would be able to design anything.
The following project shows how to design the sheet metal box assembly from scratch.
