Multi Body Dynamic Analysis of an Internal Geneva Mechanism
Objective:-
To study the motion analysis of an internal geneva mechanism.
Theory:-
The Geneva drive is a gear mechanism which that translates continuous rotation movement into intermittent rotary motion.
The rotating drive wheel is usually equipped with a pin that reaches into a slot located in the driven wheel that advances it one step at a time.
In the most common arrangement, the driven wheel has four slots and advances the drive by one step at a time for each full rotation of the drive wheel.
Procedure:-
First, the drive and the driven wheel were modeled in Solidworks separately.
Drive wheel:-
Driven wheel:-
These both wheels were then assembled for carrying out the motion analysis:-
Results:-
The motion analysis was carried for 4 different scenarios:- driver wheel rotating at 10 and 20 RPM with and without precise contact.
This is how precise contact was selected:-
1. at 10 RPM without precise contact:-
a) Angular Displacement of Driven:-
b) Angular Velocity of Driver:-
c) Contact Force:-
2. at 10 RPM with precise contact:-
a) Angular Displacement of Driven:-
b) Angular Velocity of Driver:-
c) Contact Force:-
3. at 20 RPM without precise contact:-
a) Angular Displacement of Driven:-
b) Angular Velocity of Driver:-
c) Contact Force:-
4. at 20 RPM with precise contact:-
a) Angular Displacement of Driven:-
b) Angular Velocity of Driver:-
c) Contact Force:-
Conclusion:-
From the above graphs, we can observe that the contact forces reduce with precise contact and the motion is much smoother. Angular velocity remains the same.
