Mesh cleanup on 2D shell elements
Objective:
Geometry cleanup operation for 3 given models with given element criteria and assigning proper thickness.
Geometry cleanup:
Step 1: Import the CAD model in the HyperMesh software.
Step 2: Clean up the edges depicting errors, overlapping surfaces and open edges. Edges with errors are red in colour and can be rectified using \'toggle\' command. Overlapping surfaces show the edges yellow in colour and can be rectified by simply deleting a surface. \'Filler surf\' command can be used for open edges. Use \'toggle\' command to remove unwanted edges to simplfy the model for much more accurate mesh.
Step 3: After the clean up, use \'midsurface\' command to extract the midsurface of the model.
Step 4: After extracting the midsurface activate it to current surface and hide the original model.
Step 5: Identiify the holes having diameter less than 5mm. Apply \'filler surf\' command to all such holes in order to create closed surfaces.
Step 6: Use \'add/remove point\' command to delete unnecessary nodes from the surface.
Step 7: Using \'automesh\' command, select all the surfaces, provide target mesh length size as 5mm and generate mesh. Give additional parameters as required. Here, we had edited min size as 3.5mm and max size as 7.0 mm.
Step 8: After generating mesh, check for element quality and identify the mesh elements showing errors.
Step 9: Use \'smooth\' function to edit the mesh elements. Simultaneously, \'element cleanup\' command can also be used to rectify the elements with errors automatically.
Step 10: After acheiving error-free mesh, thickness is added to the midsurface using \'ele offset\' command.
Geometry cleanup is exercised upon 3 different models.

Results and conclusion:
All the given models were successfully cleaned up, meshed and assigned thickness. Hence, acheiving all the objectives of the project. Working on all the 3 models were a good practice for the upcoming assignments.
