MBD - Internal Geneva Mechanism

Internal Geneva Mechanism

Objective

To create CAD models of the driver and driven wheel of an internal Geneva mechanism in solidworks and run motion analysis to obtain plots for the contact force and angular displacement.

Procedure

  • Model the driver and the driven wheel in solidworks according to the given dimensions [ it may be noted that i have created an internal diammeter for the driver wheel and since at this point

Driver Wheel:

Driven Wheel:

  • Make an assembly in solicworks with the driver and driven wheel to form the iternal Geneva mechanism, appropriating the motion of the device(No element should overlap the other)

Internal Geneva Mechanism Assembly(Front and Back):

  • Precise contact is set up for 60 frames per second for the 10 RPM study and set to 120 frames per second for the 20 RPM study

Case 1 :

Post Processing results for simulation run with precise contact is set up for 60 frames per second and the mechanism is run at 10 RPM

Contact Force:

Angular Displacement:

Case 2:

Post Processing results for simulation run with precise contact is set up for 120 frames per second and the mechanism is run at 20 RPM

Contact Force

Angular Displacement:

Conclusion

The results showthat for faster RPM of 20 the contact force between the elements are do peak at higher values compared to when run at an RPM of 10. and the frequency of the angular displacement increases while the mechanism is run at a higher RPM.
