Introduction to basics of MBD with motion view and motion solve

Class-1

Introduction

The session completely explained the basics on MBD and the building block for the multibody system was shown, along with providing ideas about the refrence frames, points, joints ,markers, body and motion.A MBD is nothing but the study of motion of mechanical systems caused by external forces and motion excitations acting on the system.A defining charactericstic of all these systemis that they undergo large overall motion that is comparable to their dimension.

There are various fields were implem

enattion of MBD simulation become very much important.Few areas are Automotive industry,Aerospace industry,Aircraft industry, defence industry and crash analysis etc.

The knowledge for the MBD simulations are the Newtons Laws(Second law) and any mechanism which has a physical idea. For example in the case of the friction in a mechanism the static friction should aleays be greater than dynamic friction.

what does MBD SIMULATION CONSIST OF ?

Set of bodies or parts connected or constrained with each other to perform a specified action under the action of force ,torque or motion.

TYPES OF MBD SIMULATIONS

  1. Kinematic simulation
  2. Dynamic simulation
  3. static simulation
  4. quasi-static simulation
  5. Linear simulation
  6. Complex simulaton

In Kinematic simulation the DOF of the body considered is zero and the analysis conducted is only throught the geometric study.Ex: mechanism design ,cam profile design.

In dynamic simulation the study of the motion of the body or the study of the forces acting on the body is conducted ,since as the name itself says its dynamic meaning it has one or more than one DOF.

Static simulation is the study on the equilibrium conditions of the bodies at rest.It is used to understand the effect of different types of forces on the body when t is at rest.

quasi-static simulation ,it is just a very small motion or any kind of dynamic condition given on a static body.Basically it is the study on the equilibrium conditions of the slow moving body.

Linear simulation is udes to solve NVH problems ,eigen value problems etc.

Complex simulations are

the combinations of two or more simulations.

File types:

  • .mvwFILE:Consists of the model as well as the sesson data in it .
  • .mdl file : This is nothing but the model file .
