GATE VALVE PARAMETRIC STUDY USING ANSYS FLUENT
A gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a barrier (gate) out of the path of the fluid. gate valves are used to shut off the flow of fluids rather than for flow regulation. when fully open, the typical gate valve has no obstruction in flow path, resulting in very low flow resistance. the size of the open flow path generally varies is nonlinear manner as the gate is moved. this means that the flow rate does not change evenly with stem travel. Gate valves are most commomnly used with larger pipes .
Model of Gate Valve:
Geometry:
The Geometry is created firstly using volume extract of the fluid volume to see how the fluid is passing through a gate valve with gate disc at different lifts and entension of the pipe upto 800mm which helps in flowing the fluid inside the pipe with having gate disc. The cut sections for the lifting of gate disc at differnet heights are displayed below in cut section. Here, Parameters are enabled because to get the mass flow rates at outlet with changing the lift of gate disc.
Select gate disc - move - parametrize
prepare - volumeextract - select required edges of fluid volume
pull -inlet and oulet to 800mm

Element size = 0.092892
No of elements = 137490
Setup:
As this is pipe and we need to analyse the fluid flowing inside the pipe with the gate disc involvement so the fluid(water) is flowing inside the pipe the material is water and this is under pressure condition the boundary condition at inlet and the outlet is pressure giving the inlet pressure as 10 and using COUPLED solution method the simulation is converged mass flow rate report is displayed below. Here the total number of iterations is used 200 and the velocity at the inlet is 0.1415488m/s. Steady state pressure density is used.

Explanation:
Mass Flow rates at the outlet at 5 different design points:
The animations of different types of lifts is showing how the fluid is flowing from inlet to outlet which shows with how much mass flow rate it is flowing. as compared to all the lift the fluid is flowing less in 10mm lift and the fluid is moving at 50mm is better than the lift of 10mm.
The above parameters are the different mass flow rates at 5 different design points which are the lifts of the gate disc in a fluid volume the increasing of the height of gate disc the residuals are fluctuating as shown in the residual plots and the solution is converged for all the 5 design points. Actually the mass flow rate is flowing of mass per unit time. and basically the flow increases with increase of the lift. as per the paremetric study we can observe that the increase of mass flowrate with increase in lift. the mass flow rate is negative because the mass through the volume of boundaries are flowing fluid out of the volume.
