Project

Gate Valve

In the following project parametric study on the gate valve is performed.

The following conditions are considered.

  1. Inlet boundary condition is set to pressure set with a value of 10 Pa.
  2. Outlet boundary condition is set to pressure outlet.
  3. Mesh size selected is 8mm with 250K elements.
  4. Steady- state simulation is performed with viscous model set to k-epsiplon realizable with scalable wall functions.

Parametric study was performed for 5 design points by varing the lift by 10, 5, 15, 25, 35, and 40 and mass flow rate for each parameter is calculated. Also velocity contour for each parameter are plotted

The lift value was parametrize to perform the parametric study on the gate valve. As the valve disc moves up or down fluid volume is automatically adapted accordinly. In below Figures fluid volume is shown in Lavender color.

OBSERVATIONS

# 05/09/2019 11:13:40
# The parameters defined in the project are:
# P1 - Group1 [mm] P2 - report-def-massflowrate-outet-op [kg s^-1]
P3 - MAx Velocity [m/s]
Name P1 P2 P3
DP 0 10 -0.14954 0.124
DP 1 5 -0.12343 0.125
DP 2 15 -0.18793 0.148
DP 3 25 -0.29936 0.18
DP 4 35 -0.376 0.512
DP 5 40 -0.47688 0.772

CONCLUIOSN:

As lift increases mass flow at the outlet and max velocity in the region increases. Although solution converges for less 1000 iterations upto DP3 for the convergence of DP4 adn DP5 we need to run the simulation for 4000 ietrations.
