Fender Design

Fender Design: -

  1. Primary purpose to avoid sand, mud rock, liquid and other particle to be thrown in air due to rotation of wheel.
  2. Fender avoid motion of road particle to be thrown to pedestrian & to contain motion of these particles.
  3. Front fender is Indi dually designed whereas rear fender is accommodated in body side structure.
  4. It also avoids hitting inside engine compartment of road particle due to motion of wheel.
  5. Fender skirts are used to enclose outside edge of wheel well.

  • Fender are basically categorized as full bumper type and half bumper type.
  • Full bumper type is not used nowadays since they require more blank size as compared to half bumper type which result in large scrap to be produced.
  • In half bumper size with slight increase in bland size we can accommodate two fenders in one bland which result in lesser scrap.
  • In half bumper type we are also using plastic parts at front end which will also reduce weight and part

Fenders are mounted on 5 particular points

  1. A pillar:-

  1. Baffle Mounting: -

  1. Sill:-

  1. Body: -

  1. Drip: -it is point of contact with engine compartment.

Drip area design consideration:

150 mm from front end is kept in order to accommodate head lamp and 200 mm from back side to accommodate wiper motor accessories.

Initially opening angle is given 3 degree and length of 9 mm, this should be such that internal details of engine are not been seen from outside.

40 to 60 mm depth is given in order to allow proper tolling operation if it is more than 60 mm result in spring back effect.

At the end structure is provided to strengthen the drip area.10 mm clearance is kept between end point and engine room component.
