Fender Design
The main objective is to design the Drip Area, Sillmount area, bumper mount region and A-pillar mount Region for the front fender of the car.
Fender is basically a sheet metal part which covers front wheel and rear wheel of the car.It protects the car body from the stones, chips and any kind of debris thrown by the rotating tire.
Drip Area of the fender:
Drip area of the fender is the extended part of the fender which connects the fender with the engine compartment.Drip area is designed as per the given master section and the dimensions shown below:
Drip Area in CAD model
The drip area distance should be 40 mm or less.if it more than 40 mm,then ribs are provided which acts a support which reduces the spring back effect.
Minimum gap between the engine area and drip area should be 10mm.
2.A-pillar mounting region:
This is the area of the fender which is used to mount fender into the A-pillar mounting area of the car.
3.Bumper mounting region:
This region connects fender with front bumper of the car.
4.Sill mount region: This region is used to mount the fender on the sill which is underside of the door of the car.
5.Splash cover Mount:
Baffle,a plastic part which is added in the sheet metal part is mounted on the splash cover fender region.Baffle is a plastic which reduces the weight of the fender by material reduction and also reduces overall cost of the fender part.
