FLOW SIMULATION OF AIR OVER CYLINDER
AIM:To simulate the transient flow of air over the cylinder in SOLIDWORKS FLOW SIMULATION.
OBJECTIVE:
- Create animations for pressure-velocity for all different Reynolds number.
- Perform cut plots for velocity and pressure distribution on X-Y section of flow domain for different Reynolds number.
THEORY:REYNOLDS NUMBER(Re)
- Reynolds number(Re) is the ratio of inertia force to viscous force within a fluid which is subjected to relative internal movement due to different fluid velocities.
- Re is dimensionless physical quantity expressed as Re= ρvD/μ.
- Re depends on density of medium, inlet velocity of medium,Diameter of pipe and dynamic viscosity of medium.
- Medium can be air, water, any fluids etc.
INPUT PARAMETERS:
- Medium selected: Air
- At room temperature(101325 Pascal and 293.2 Kelvin),
density of air=1.2047 kg/m3 - dynamic viscosity of air=1.8205*0.00001 kg/ms
- kinematic viscosity of air=1.5111*0.00001 m2/s
- diameter of pipe=0.1m=100mm
- length of pipe=1m=1000mm
PROCEDURE:
1)Create a solid pipe of 0.1m diameter and length to be 1m;after creating figure save as a part file
2)In WiZARD command,select medium(air),type of flow(laminar-turbulent)and external,thermodynamic parameters(temperature and pressure),velocity parameters(initially 0.5m/wsec),select SI units.This makes Computational domain.
3)Generate Mesh, select level of initial mesh=5 and show basic mesh on computational domain.
4)Check for results by clicking on RUN command.Iteration windows opens ; no of iterations and iterations time will be displayed.
5)Now on RESULT Command, obtain cut plots by selecting plane perpendicular to direction of flow.Select Contour as velocity, pressure and define suitable mesh colour
6)Create animations after cut plots are done.
6)Repeat this steps for other different Re no(three different inlet velocity).
RESULTS:CUT PLOTS FOR VELOCITY & PRESSURE.
