Copper Sheet Rolling Simulation

Copper Sheet Rolling Simulation

Aim :

To simulate the rolling operation on the workpiece made up of Copper and Equivalent stress,Equivalent plastic strain in the workpiece and directional deformationi in the workpiece.

Model :

Material Selection and their Properties :

Copper -

Procedure :

  • Drag and drop static structure on workspace. In engineering data select the specified materials. In this case, Copper Alloy NL from general Non-linear Materials.
  • Open Design modeller and import the geometry.
  • Increase the length of the workpiece by 60 mm and decrease the breadth by 8 mm on both sides. Then Close the design modeller.
  • Open Mechanical Solver and specify Copper material to the Workpiece.
  • Apply contacts and joints for the model approriately. The contacts are frictional with 0.2 frictional coefficient and joints are cylindrical body-grounded joints.
  • Mesh the model approriately. Apply sizing option for the Workpiece of 4 mm
  • In analysis settings, apply displacement to the workpiece in the negative Y direction. Also apply joint rotations to the wheels.
  • Now for results, apply equivalent stress, equivalent plastic strain for Workpiece, directional deformation in Z direction and directional deformation of the tip of Workpiece.
  • After applying Click on Solve.

Mesh :

Element size - Default

Sizing for Workpiece - 4 mm

No. of Nodes - 4124

No. of Elements - 606

Mesh quality -

Results -

a) Equivalent stress -

b) Equivalent Plastic strain -

c) Directional Deformation in the Z axis for the workpiece -

d) Directional Deformation of the tip of Workpiece.

From the above image, we can see that the tip of the workpiece has deformed nearly 90 mm in negative Y direction.
