Project

Comparison of various cases

Objective:

To compare various cases as given in the question

Procedure followed:

Case 1:

1. Open the given file - FAILURE_JOHNSON_0000.rad

2. Keep all the properties as they are, save the file as Law2_epsmax_failure and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 2:

1. Open the previous file

2. In /FAIL/JOHNSON change ifail_sh=1, Dadv=1 and Ifem=1, save the file as Law2_epsmax_crack and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 3:

1. Open the previous file

2. Delete FAIL/JOHNSON card, save the file as Law2_epsmax_nofail and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 4:

1. Open the previous file

2. Delete the value of Eps_p_max, save the file as Law2 and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 5:

1. Open the given previous file

2. Convert the material model to Law1 elastic with same density,E & Nu, save the file as Law1 and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 6:

1. Open the given file – LAW27_0000.rad

2. Change shell properties to recommended and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

\"\"

\"\"

Case 7:

1. Open the previous file

2. Convert the material model to Law36, change the other parameters as explained in the video - Materials part 7 and run the simulation

3. Check the Energy and Mass errors in the .OUT file

\"\"

4. Open the .h3d file in Hyperview and the .T01 file in the Hypergraph

5. Check the Von-mises plot and plot a graph for various energies vs. time

Results & Conclusion:

The observations recorded were as follows:

\"\"

Based on all the observations, Case 2 would represent the on-field scenario. Explanation:

  • Aluminium being Ductile material, Cases 6 & 7 aren\'t appropriate.
  • Also in cases 4 & 5, the material appears as a fabric sheet clamped throughout its outer periphery.
  • In Case 1, the value of Ifail_sh wasn\'t defined, thus being unable to represent the cracking of elements.
  • Whereas in Case 3, as the Failure card was deleted, the results weren\'t as reaalistic as they were in Case 2

Detailed observations about the animations are noted in the ppt attached with all the files:
