Compare the simulation results of the base setup and improved shell element properties
Objective:
To compare the simulation results of the base setup and improved shell element properties
Procedure:
1. Change the run time to 55ms.
2. To keep the number of animation frames between 25 and 60, frequency of animation output is taken as 1ms.
3. The first simulation is run without assigning any properties.
4. Check if the energy and mass errors are acceptable. (As shown in the image below, the energy error was -10.3% and was within the permissible limit of 15%)
5. Plot all the required graphs as explained in the videos. Following are the graphs of the first simulation{(Internal Energy, Kinetic Energy, Contact Energy, Hourglass energy, Total energy) vs Time, Rigid wall total resultant force vs Time, Time step vs Time, Von Mises Contour Plot)}
6. Assign the given Properties
7. Repeat the steps 3 to 5.
Results and Conclusion:
1. The energy error in case 1 is much higher as compared to case 2 (-10.3% vs -0.1%).
2. The mass error in both cases is same.
3. The hourglass energy in case 1 is constantly increasing, while in the case 2 it is constant and 0 throughout the simulation. This is due to the fact that in case 2 Belytschko elements were replaced with QEPH, which have better Hourglass control.
4. In Von Mises Contour Plot, it could be observed that initially, Min. & Max. strain in case 2 were at nodes 716 and 708 respectively, as compared to 716 and 706 in case 1.
