Channel Flow simulation using Converge CFD and Paraview

In this project, channel flow is simulated using Converge Studio & solver and post processed using Paraview. The channel dimensions are 0.1m X 0.01m X 0.01m (x,y,z). The center of the channel is taken as origin (0,0,0). The working fluid is air here.

The boundary conditions are taken as follows:

Inlet Pressure: 100001Pa

Outlet Pressure:100000Pa.

Top wall temperature: 300k

Bottom wall temperature: 300k

A no slip condition is used for top and bottom wall.

A pressure based steady state solver is used and the simulations for all three meshes are carried out for 45,000 cycles.

For the pressure plot the Y-axis is Pressure(Pa) and X-axis is Points along X-axis from -0.05 to 0.05.

For the velocity plot the Y-axis is Velocity(m/s) and X-axis is Points along Y-axis from -0.005 to 0.005.

The simulation is carried out for three mesh sizes as follow:

Mesh size 1:dx = 2.0e-4m, dy = 2.0e-4m, dz = 2e-4m

Mesh size 2:dx = 1.5e-4m, dy = 1.5e-4m, dz = 1.5e-4m

Mesh size 3:dx = 1.2e-4m, dy = 1.2e-4m, dz = 1.2e-4m

Mesh size 1:

Mesh size 2:

Mesh size 3:

From the velocity plots above attached we can see that a parabolic shape is achieved indicated a fully developed flow, i.e., minimum where the fluid comes into contact with the wall and maximum at the center of the channel.

From the pressure plots above attached we can see that pressure keeps on reducing from 100001Pa until it reaches a pressure of 100000Pa, again indicating a developed flow.

From the animation below we can see how the simulation attains steady state where a parabolic profile of velocity can be obtained. We can see from the simulation that near the wall the velocity is very less and as the we go towards the center the velocity increases till it attains maximum velocity.
