Bench Drill

PROJECT TITLE: Bench Drill

ABSTRACT:

As designers we always have a curiosity about machines we seen from our eyes. This project contains one of these machines we saw from our eyes i.e. Bench drill. In this project we are going to see most of the assemblies involved in the bench drill machine such as Base assembly, drive pulley assembly, Idler pulley assembly, spindle assembly, hand lever assembly, bet shifter assembly, etc.

INTRODUCTION:

Bench drill is one of the most important machine in a workshop. It was designed to produce a hole of required diameter and depth on metal jobs. Drilling can be called as the operation of producing a hole of required diameter and depth by removing metal by the rotating drill bit. The cutting tool known as the drill bit is fitted into the spindle of the bench drill machine. A mark of indentation is made on the job at the required location with a center punch. The rotating drill bit is pressed at the location and is fed into the job. The hole can be made up to a required depth.

Ideation(i):

1.Self-questioning about project ideas consideration with the time span as well as abilities.

2. Then I get the idea of machines seen from my eyes in workshops throughout engineering.

3. Search such machines information on the web and collect the information about designs.

Ideation(ii):

1. Study all the designs from the information got from the web.

2. Then I selected one topic among them which is best with the consideration.

3. Study all parts designs thoroughly of that topic.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Testing Design abilities of myself.
  • Develop an existing system using the knowledge gain throughout the course.
  • Improve understanding of the design process.
  • Design all parts of the system with the specified time period.
  • Improve the ability to read 2d drawings.

DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Design contains all parts except motor, belt, and drill bit which will be different as per application.
  • All designs made by solid modelling.
  • All designs follow the inch system.

CAD- MODELLING:

Main Assembly

It consists of 6 sub-assemblies are as follows:

1.Base Assembly:

  • Base is the main part of the drilling machine, it carries the entire weight of the machine and transfer it to the ground.
  • It is mounted on the ground with the help of hex screws.
  • The upper part in this assembly is called Head through which other sub-assemblies connected to the base assembly.
  • In middle there is a column which is mounted on the base and holds knee on it.
  • Knee is used to create a platform for a table.
  • Table is the platform for the job on which drilling operations need to be performed.
  • It consists of 11 parts are as follows:

    1.Base

    2.Column

RENDERINGS:

CONCLUSION:

  • Design successfully all parts and assemblies of bench drill with 3d modelling within the time span.
  • Learn SolidWorks modelling feature successfully.
  • Learn rendering in SolidWorks successfully.

PROJECT SCOPE:

  • As the project has been based on the learning of design software as well as an understanding of design procedure learners can make reference to this project.
  • This project will helpful for the learner to understand the feature of SolidWorks.
  • The project will help to learn part modelling as well as assembly using SolidWorks.
