2D Channel Flow simulation using Converge CFD
Channel flow simulation using CONVERGE CFD
- Objectives :
- To run 3 simulations for 2D Channel flow proble and compare the results between all the 3 simulations for 3 different base mesh sizes.
dx = 2e-4m, dy = 2e-4m, dz = 2e-4m;
dx = 1.5e-4m, dy = 1.5e-4m, dz = 1.5e-4m;
dx = 1.0e-4m, dy = 1.0e-4m, dz = 1.0e-4m;
- Geometry :
Dimensions - Length = 0.1m
Width = 0.01m
Height = 0.01m
The setup is created by geometry generation and then boundary names are assigned to inlet, outlet and walls.
Boundary Conditions -
Inlet - Pressure = 100001 Pa;
Temperature = 300K
Outlet - Pressure = 100000 Pa
Walls - No slip, atmospheric temperature = 300K
- Case I :
Mesh - dx = 2e-4m, dy = 2e-4m, dz = 2e-4m.

Total cell count line plot -
Flow Animation -
The flow develops slowly across the cross section of the pipe. We can see parabolic shape of the flow towards the outlet. Near the wall surface we can observe that the boundary layer phenomenon occurs.
- Case II :

- Conclusion :
- As the mesh size reduces, cell count increases for each simulation.
- Velocity is highest in first case, but it is calculated more accurately in second and third case.
- Pressure remains constanmt for all cases.
- Mass flow rate at outlet is almost same for 2nd and 3rd case.
- Overall results get better with finer mesh.
