Challenge

Week 9- Unsteady moving zones Approach

Aim

To simulate the motion of blades in a generic turbomachinery component using an unsteady approach.

Procedure

1) Import the part mesh to fluent and use Append to import the rest of the component meshs.

2) To do a unstedy simulation for a rotating mesh we use Moving mesh approach.

3) K-epsilon model is used as it gives better result for internal flow.

4) For timestep we use the formula,

rotational velocity = 300 rpm

angular velocity = (2 x pi x N) / 60

Time period = 60/ N

T = 0.24

to achieve this time period within 1000 timesteps we use

0.24 / 1000 = 0.00024.
