Week 9 Tension and Torsion test challenge
Aim-
For this challenge, you will have to perform the tension and torsion test on the specimen provided below the video corresponding to the challenge.
For the tension test, displace one end of the specimen to 18mm while keeping the other fixed. You will need to find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach appropriate images to show your results.
For the torsion test, you will need to displace one end of the specimen to an angle of 1200 degree. Find out the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature of the specimen and attach images to show your results.
Procedure-
1) Open ansys workbench and drag explicit dynamics into project shematics
2) open engineering data and under explicit materials select steel 1006 and close

3) now import the geometry into spaceclaim and open it, look for any abnoramlity in the model,if everthing is correct then close spaceclaim
4)open model, here for CASE 1 i.e tension test give material as steel 1006 and define 2 more coordinate systems in following parts

now in mesh module add
method - tetrahedron
sizing - sphere of influence to both co ordinate systems with diameter as 22mm and 1.5mm.

in analysis setting add step end time as 1e-003
now define a displacement of 18mm to one side, and fixed support to other

in solutions add total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature

CASE 2
in project shematics duplicate the existing tension explicit dynamics module and rename it as torsion test
here open model, in mesh give face sizing of 1.5mm to 2 faces and 1 more sphere of influence to center face with diameter as 8mm and element size as 1mm

in Coordinate system add a cylindrical coordinate system to the center face as follows with principle axis oriented to the direction of rotation

analysis settings will remain the safe, in displacement select this new cylindrical coordinate system and give a rotation value of 1200 degrees

In solution add the total deformation, equivalent stress and temperature
