Challenge

Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge

Aim:- To simulate machining with planer.

Objective:-

  • Perform two Cases with different velocitys of cutting tool.
  1. Cutting velocity of 20000mm/s
  2. Cutting velocity of 15000mm/s.
  • find out the Equivalent Stress,Total Deformation and User defined result to calculate the temperature of the body.

Pre-Processing:-

Geometry:-

Part in gray colour is workpiece and part in green is cutting tool.As we wanted to analyse workpiece we have set the to be rigid.

Material Selection:-

In both the cases material assigned are similar

Structural Steel:-

Steel 1006:-

Connections:-

Body Interaction:-

Meshing:-

Patch confirming Method:-

Method used tetrahedrons for meshing of tool.

Edge sizing:-

Edge sizing is used with 10 division

Mesh:-

Analysis Settings:-

The end time is 7.5e-4 and the energy error value is 0.1

For case 2 energy error value is 2

Boundary Conditioning:-

Fixed Support:-

fixed support is given to the bottom part of the workpiece.

Velocity:-

Case 1:-

For this case velocity of cutting tool is 20000mm/sec

Case 2:-

For this case velocity of cutting tool is 15000mm/sec

Post-Processing:-

Case 1:-

Equivalent Stress:-

Total Deformation:-

Temprature of body:-

Directional Deformation:-

Case 2:-

Equivalent Stress:-

Total Deformation:-

Temprature of body:-

Directional Deformation:-

Results:-

Case 1 Case 2
MAX MIN MAX MIN
Equivalent Stress 439.21 MPa 2.4478 MPa 649.91 MPa 4.9789 MPa
Total Deformation 34.313 mm 0 mm 23.614 mm 0 mm
Temprature of Body 367.77 °C 19.85 °C 364.75 °C 19.85 °C
Directional Deformation of Tool 15. mm 15. mm 11.25 mm 11.25 mm

Conclusion:-

  • From this simulation we can see that for lower velocity of tool causes less amount of material removal. we can see that from Directional dformation of tool which is less in case2 than case1.
  • When we compare both the cases we can see that equivalent stress induced is less in case 1 (439.21 MPa) than case 2 (649.91 MPa).
  • But for both the cases tempreture genrated is almost equal.
  • For case 1 energy maximum error is 0.1 but for case2 the value is 2.Because of high energy error the value of energy error is increased for case 2.
