Challenge

Week 9 Machining with Planer Challenge

OBJECTIVES:-

  • To perform an explicit dynamics simulation to find out the Equivalent Stress, Total Deformation and also insert a User defined result to calculate the temperature of the body on the given work

PROCEDURE:-

  • open ansys workbench R2
  • select explicit dynamic analysis
  • select material from explicit material list in engineering data section
  • import the geometry
  • rename its parts as suitable
  • select steel 1006 material for work piece
  • select rigid stiffness behavior for cutting tool
  • delete default contact
  • keep body interaction in connection section
  • select cutting tool using body filter tool and insert mesh sizing, select type as tetrahedrone
  • select four shortest edge of work piece and insert mesh sizing , select type as number of division ,input number of division as 10
  • insert fixed suport in analysis settings ,select bottom side of work as its scope
  • insert velocity in analysis settings input 20000mm/s for the first case ,and for second case input 15000mm/s
  • in analysis settings input 7.5e4 for the end time
  • insert total deformation ,equivalent stress and strain in solution section
  • insert user defined result in solution section ,input TEMPERATUREALL in the expression section
  • run solve

RESULT :-

CASE I:-

VALOCITY OF 20000 mm/s:-

TOTAL DEFORMATION :-

EQUIVALENT STRESS :-

EQUIVALENT STRAIN :-

TEMPERATURE (USER DEFINED ):-

CASE II:-

VALOCITY OF 15000 mm/s:-

TOTAL DEFORMATION :-

EQUIVALENT STRESS :-

EQUIVALENT STRAIN :-

TEMPERATURE (USER DEFINED ):-

TABULATION :-

CASES TOTAL DEFORMATION(mm) EQUIVALENT STRESS(MPa) EQUIVALENT STRAIN(mm/mm) TEMPERATURE °C
CASE I 29.998 686.56 0.0032605 395.43
CASE II 39.068 685.45 0.0032552 346.08

CONCLUSION :-

  • Total deformation in first case which has given velocity of 20000 mm/s for cutting tool is 29.998 mm
  • temperature is more in first case is 395.43 °C
  • equivalent stress is more in first case is 686.56 MPa
  • equivalent strain is less in second case is 0.0032552 mm/mm
