Challenge

Week 9 - Challenge 3 - Bumper

Objective:

To create the Bumper Plastic component through the given Class-A surface.

GIVEN CLASS A SURFACE:

For esier approuch to create the Class B and Class C surfaces Class A surface is given as a spitted half of the whole bumper.

First step in creating a solid component from class A surface is to find the tooling axis in best possible and manufacturable direction.

TOOLING AXIS:

To find the best possible direction for tooling component ids visually checked for all three directions.

X-direction:

Y-Direction:

Z-Direction:

By comparing all three directions, it is visually understandable that x direction shows best diction for tooling.

Tooling axis:

To check whether the tooling axis created, we'll use draft analysis tool.

Draft analysis reslut shows that the tooling axis created is good far tooling and manufacturable. Since this axis is good for tooling, we don't have to cosider bisecting lines.

Next step is to create class b surface:

CLASS B SURFACE:

Since this is a complex surface, creating class A serface by extracting seraces will be difficult. So, we'll use direct offset method to offset the Class A to the given thickness of 3 mm which might result in some missing surfces such as edge fillets. but it can be solved by extracing the perticular related surfaces and recreating the surface and fillets.

CLASS C SURFACE:

Class c srface is created by creating a boundary class Asurface and swaping the boundary with respect to the class A surface.

CLASS A + CLASS C SURFACE:

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

Since nominal draft angle can be 0.5 to 3 degrees, Green surface shows positive draft angle equal and over 3 degrees; Cyan color shows draft angle between 0.5 and 3 degrees because some points in class c surface has angle between 2.9 to 3 degrres; Red colr shows negative angle because it is bottom side of the part and is opposite to the direction of tooling. For botter visualization we'll set 2.9 for green color.
