ASSEMBLY OF A FRAME USING SUITABLE CONNECTIONS IN HYPERMESH

OBJECTIVE:

To craete connector and attach various parts of the given model as per the given data.

Given data

1. Right_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Seam-Quad(angled+capped+L)

2. Left_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1:- Quad elements

3. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1:- Spot weld with 3 Layers and 5 mm Diameter

4. Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1:- Hexa (Adhesive)

5. Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

6. Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2:- Bolt Connector

7. Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Rigid Elements

8. Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2:- Spot-weld with Spring Elements

9. Rest all the component left Join them with suitable connectors

PROCEDURE:

  • A new hyperworks file with Radios as user profile was opened and the given model is then imported on to the workpage.
  • All components are meshed individually with quad elements with a target element size of 5mm.
  • Seam weld is used as connector for Right_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1 and Left_Rail_2 & Front_truss_1 and choosing element type as per the given data.
  • Seam from 2D panel is selected and the nodes, components, spacing, tolerance etc were entered accordingly. If the gap between the elements is more tolerance is increased accordingly to get realised.
  • The connector window can be optioned from View>Browsers>Hypermesh>connectors.
  • The colour shown by the connectors indicates :

Red colour: Not realised

Green colour: Realised

  • After the creation of seam weld the mesh will get distorted and has to be corrected further.
  • Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Left_Rail_1 are also connected by seam weld by choosing Hexa(Adhesive) element type. For creating Adhesive a new collector has to be created and further assigning material and property to it for the 3D representation. If property is not assigned it will be shown as flat element.
  • Front_truss_2, Front_truss_1 & Right_Rail_1, Right_Rail_1 & Right_Rail_2 and Left_Rail_1 & Left_Rail_2 are connected by using spot weld and there by selecting different element types such as rigid, Spring etc.
  • 2D>connectors>Spot.

  • Rear_truss_2 & Right_Rail_2 and Rear_truss_2 & Left_Rail_2 are connected by bolts.
  • 2D>Connectors>Bolt.
  • Bolts can be created only if there exist a hole. Since these parts don't contain any hole we have to change it to 'create hole, if none' from bolt tool.
  • After creating the bolt also the mesh wil get distorted and has to corrected further.
  • For connecting the remaining joints different types of element from Area, Bolt, Spot etc has been used.
  • Save the file.

RESULTS:

Different connectors were created to attach various parts of the component as per the given data using Hyperworks.

CONCLUSION:

By completing this challange, learned about different types of connector, their uses and method to apply it.
