Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

1.

a.The Draft Analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on colour ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.

Tooling direction is the main consideration for plastic part and mould parts because it defines the movement of the mould part and the possibility of the plastic part coming out from the mould part (Core and Cavity).

  • b. Tooling Axis Creation:
In Molding, machine arrangement is given to open the mould along a direction which is known as Tooling Direction, the mould is built from two separate halves (Core and Cavity) and tooling direction basically defines the direction of mould pulls apart.

To determine the location for the tooling axis we observe the part in x, y and z directions to find an optimal way of clearing the mold and cavity in such a way that side core is not needed. This in turn reduces the manufacturing cost of the part.

  1. We use the Bisecting Method to create a Tooling Axis by creating a dummy axis by creating an axis, and select the corresponding surface and the axis (z-x) to get intersection lines then from those intersection lines select parallel lines create new lines using the point-point feature on the parallel lines (Do this for both parallel lines) select both new lines and select the bisect option to create a new line with direction and rename it as tooling direction x-axis do the same process for the x-y surface and create a new line and rename it as tooling direction y-axis select both zy and xz tooling direction line and create a bisecting line rename this line as tooling direction.

The issue we get when we are doing molding for any component is with the parallel faces with respect to the Tooling Axis, this can be solved by creating a dummy tooling axis in x,y direction and then using the bisecting line method to obtain a proper tooling axis.
