Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
AIM:To design screw boss and the dog house for the given plastic component of coin holder at there given respective positions.
PROCEDURE:(i)Screw bosses can be reinforced with ribs or gussets for added strength and durability. A boss should not be next to exterior walls, but we can use coring ribs to keep it connected to the part's exterior wall without risking sink.
(ii)Ribs are thin wall like feature typically joined with the geometry of a part to add internal support to the wall or other feature like bosses.
(iii)Ribs involves the following:
Locating and arresting the component assembly and provide the alignment the mating parts along with acting as stops and guiding for the mechanism.
(iv)
-
Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall ( C ) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock ( T ).
-
Height of ( B ) should be between 3.0 – 6.0 mm
(v)In this we have got to take the 2 tooling axis for the model to create the dog house and the screw boss at the top to get the best fit for the tooling direction of the model.

After creating the screw boss we are going to use boolean operation and add the screw boss with coin holder and then we have to provide the draft and edge fillets.
Dog house is looking embossment for the screw to attach one plastic part with another.

Now for the design of the dog house are being depicted below:

After creating of dog house we have to make a cut at the bottom by offset of 1mm after creating of dog house.

Then creating one screw boss can be copied to another place using translate. The final model which we have got from it is shown below:
