Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2

Aim : To create Dog house for the door trim on the B surface. And performing draft analysis on the door trim and Dog house.

  • Given Class A surface

  • Tooling Axis : Class A surface is first analysed to create tooling axis. where the molds pull apart in injection molding. tooling direction is essential for plastic product design as it decides the direction for mold seperation.

  • Draft analysis Of A surface : The draft analysis command enables you to detect if the part you drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on the range of colour. Drafting reduces the chances of damage to the part at release. Reduces wear and tear chances of damage to the mould.

  • Creation of B surface : Offset the A surface to 2.5mm there will be lot of irregularities will be created after offset resolve all the irregularities by Extrapolating and trimming the surfaces.

  • Creation of C surface : C surface is the closing element for A & B surface, It is obtained by sweeping the boundry of A surface.

  • Joining A, B & C surface : All the surfaces can be joined by trimming each surface one after other. to create final part.

  • Closed Surface : the created surface is converted into solid part.

  • Dog house creation : Dog houses are used as supporting features it provides strength to the part. these supporting features are built on the B surface.

  • Design rules for Dog House Creation :

  1. Dog house wall thickness (C) should be 40% or less than the wall thickness (T) at the intersection.
  2. Height of (B) should be between 3-6 mm.

We have created sketch for Dog house and extruded it to 20 mm height. then we create top surface by fill option then we join both the surfaces together. thicken them to 2 mm. we offset the 1mm from the side wall by considering the design rule Now we split the side wall to get the stepped surface at the bottom.

  • Draft Analysis Of Dog House : Draft analysis is performed considering the side core axis as our toolling direction.

  • Final Part

  • Geometrical set
