Week 9 - Attachment Feature Creation - Challenge 2
Create the Dog House for the Door Trim considering the design rules mentioned in the video. Consider the thickness of the part to be 2.5 mm.
Aim: Create the Dog House for the Door Trim considering the design rules and perform the draft analysis for class A and create the final close body component and perform the draft analysis.
Objective:
- Create the Tooling axis
- Design the class-B and class-C surfaces and join them.
- Use the Close Surface feature to make a solid body from the surface.
- Design the required dog house and analysis them.
- Perform the Draft analysis for the final component.
CLASS A SURFACE
- it is a surface created by the styling team which is then given as an input to the plastic designer to create the plastic component. It is the aesthetic surface and the outer most surface.

CLASS B SURFACE
- it is the surface below a certain thickness from the Class-A surface created by the plastic designer. This surface contains all the engineering aspects of a model.

CLASS C SURFACE
- it is the surface which joins the Class-A and Class-B surfaces together

CLOSED SURFACE

SOLID BODY

Tooling Axis AND SIDE CORE AXIS
- Class-A surface is first analyzed to create the tooling axis. where the molds pull apart in injection molding. Tooling direction is essential for plastic product design as it decides the direction for mold separation.
- In the colour bar, I gave 1.45 deg for green because the sweep angle is 0.5 deg for the outer surface.

Draft analysis of Class- A
- After creating a tooling axis we do the draft analysis. Before drafting we have to make sure that in the view mode it is selected for the materials.
- After selecting the feature draft analysis tool we drag the compass from its position to the tool axis. Then lock the compass. After that select anywhere on the component and it will give you the result.

Draft Analysis on the final component
- To perform the draft analysis for the solid part body (which has Dog Houses on it), I used the featured draft analysis tool in the generative shape design workbench.

DOG HOUSE DRAFT ANALYSIS
- Initially, we need to check the draft analysis concerning the tooling axis and then concerning the side core axis.

DOG HOUSE DESIGN:
- Dog house: Dog house is an engineering feature used in the plastic trim design. Dog houses are used as supporting features. Sometimes other engineering features like snaps; locators, etc. are mounded on them to increase their strength.
- Dog house and other engineering Features are built on B-surface.

Design rules for Dog house creation

"C" is where the doghouse contacts the backside of the surface
Doghouse wall thickness at the intersection of the part wall ( C ) should be 40% or less than the main wall stock ( T ).
The height of ( B ) should be between 3.0 – 6.0 mm

TREE STRUCTURE

Conclusion :
Hence, the dog house for the door trim was created by considering the design rules, and the Draft analysis performed on the final component is successfully done.
