Week 8 Challenge
1.
Aim: To apply the following loads on the staad model.
Given Input:
- Form a Load case as DL for Dead Load
- Apply Self weight
- Apply member load of 3 kN/m on the rafter
- Apply member load of 6 kN/m on the secondary beams
- Apply point load of 20 kN at node intersecting inclined member on the top chord.
- Form a Load case as LL for Live Load
- Apply member load of 4 kN/m on the rafter
- Apply member load of 7.5 kN/m on the secondary beams
- Form load combination 1.5DL+1.5LL
Procedure:
- To create a load case, click on the loading tab, then click on add load case details and add .

- Accordingly, two load cases are created naming Dead load and live load.
- In the dead load case, self-weight is applied as shown below.

- Member loads (Uniform force) are applied as shown below by considering the direction of load and its intensity.

- Nodal loads are applied as shown below by considering the nodal load and its direction as input.

- To form a load combination, click on load case details, then click on add and choose define load combination option and create the combination accordingly by providing considering load factors and load cases as input.

Result:
- By considering the above steps, two load cases for dead load and live load are created and member load and nodal loads are applied and 1.5DL+1.5LL combination also cretaed.
2.
Aim:
- Find the Maximum Moment in the Secondary beam for 1.5DL+1.5LL case
- Find the Maximum Axial force on the inclined bracing and identify the member having the maximum force for 1.5DL+1.5LL case
- Identify Bottom chord of Truss having Maximum shear Force & Maximum moment for 1.5DL+1.5LL case and present the values.
Solution:
- To find the maximum bending moment ,axial force and shear force, select the members, then go to post-processing mode and go to results tab, click on reports tab , select section forces.
- Then click on the required section force and for which loading case it is required and click on ok to find the results.

- The maximum bending moment observed for Secondary beams is 53.048 kN.m.
- The maximum axial force observed in inclined bracing is 190.482 kN and the member is having beam no. 690.

- The maximum bending moment observed for the bottom chord member is 36.095 kN.m (My) and beam no is 95.

- The maximum shear force observed is 20.154 kN and beam no is 751.

Result:
Member forces have been found accordingly.
3.
Aim: For the attached STAAD file identify the Warnings and fix the same and run the analysis.
Solution: After adding loads according to the above questions and clicking on run analysis, no warning or instabilities have been encountered in the model. Staad model has been attached.

4.
Aim: To Apply Design parameters for structure modeled for code IS800:2007.
Given data:
- Effective Length Lx, Ly, Lz for beams, Truss elements
- Effective length factors Ky, Kz for Columns
- Apply other design parameters for respective members
Procedure:
- IS 800 LSD has been chosen.
- Click on define parameters, Kx,Ky,Kz for columns and ,Lx,Ly,Lz for beams have been choosen and required values has been provided accordingly.

- Then check code command has been added from design commands.

Result:
As per requirement , the input for Ky,Kz and Lx,Ly Lz has been provided in staad model.
Staad model has been attached.
