Challenge

Week 8 - BlockMesh Drill down challenge

BlockMesh Drill challenge is solved using OpenFoam

The mesh is created using the different blocks, vertices, and faces. The shape is shown in the diagram with the points.

Steps used in solving the problem

1. Run the openFoam in the open terminal inside the ubuntu using the command "foam".

2. list all the files inside the openFoam using the "ls" command. It shows all the directory inside the openFoam file.

3. Open the tutorials folder inside the openFoam file using the command "cd tutorials".

4. Again list all the files inside the tutorials folder.

5. Open the incompressible folder inside the tutorials folder using the command "cd incompressible".

6. list all the files inside the incompressible folder by "ls" command.

7. Open the icoFoam folder inside the incompressible folder.

8. Copy the cavity file using the command "cp -r cavity/ $FOAMRUN/ flange_test" inside the run folder with different name i.e cavity_test.

9. Go one step back using the command "cd ..".

10. Use run command in the terminal to open the run folder "run".

11. Using the "ls" command to see all the files inside the run folder. cavity_test file is copied inside the run folder.

12. Open the cavity folder inside the cavity_test folder using the "cd cavity" command.

13. Edit the blockMeshDict using the command "gedit blockMeshDict".

14. simple grading is the ratio of the last to the first cell in the mesh.

15. Similarly edit the time in the controlDict inside the system folder.

16. The pressure and velocity condition for the flow changes inside the "0" folder in the cavity folder.

Velocity Condition

Pressure Condition

17. Check inside the constant folder that polymesh folder is created or not, using the command "blockMesh".

18. Use the icoFoam solver to run the program.

19. Use the command "paraFoam " for the image of the mesh created.

20. The Pressure distribution in the mesh for the simple grading 0.2 near the boundary wall of the mesh.

21. The velocity distribution for the simple grading 0.2 near the boundary wall across the mesh image is shown below

22. The plot of velocity along the x axis in the

23. The simple grading for the 0.5 mesh

24. The simple grading for the 0.8 mesh

The velocity across the contour for different grading at a distance of 0.08 from the inlet patch is around 0.55893 m/s for 0.8 mesh. The variation in the velocity is around 1e-4 order for the 0.2 to 0.8 mesh.
