Aim:

Morph the given component model and understand the various morphing pactices.

Procedure:

Morphing is a technique that is used to change the design intent of an existing models. With the morphing technique, design changes can be made from CAD model or from FE model. Morphing simplifies the trail and error approach to obtain a solution according to the simulation results as it eliminates chnages in the numerical data involved in the design. As example, this paractice can be helpful in determining the feasible aerofoil shape as simulation results fom the morphed shapes can be obtained in less time.

  • The model is imported into the ANSA workspace and the surface entities are oriented such that grey volume is visible.
  • The bolt data is hidden from workspace and the geometry check is done.
  • The triple cons at the bolt holes are released and topo operation is done to bring back the connection with double cons.
  • By entering the morph module, the morphing is activated.
  • A new ortho box is created, morph box is splitted and the shape of the suface entities are modified through free movement of control points as shown below.

Following are the modifications that are done by hexahedral morphing boxes.

Note: Morphing boxes are deleted from the final model.

  • Direct morphing examples are shown below.

Translate:- Control entities(Green),morphing entities (Pnk), translating vector( yellow) with distance value and bounds(blue) are defined and direct morphing is done as shown below.

Rotate:- 20 degee rotation is given to the rectangular cutout entity.

Sweep:- The front edge is swept for 25 mm along the specified vector.

Offset:- The side wall of the circular cutout is offset towards its centre by 5 mm distance.

Result:

The given model is sucessfully morphed by hexhedral moprphing boxes and direct morphing options available.

Learning outcome:

Varioust types of morphing practices are understood.
