Week 8
Aim:
To study the basics of different Morphing techniques and its uses in various industries.
Abstract:
ANSA MORPH presents a very useful tool for improving design performance in a wide range of modelling approaches. Shape optimization for industrial applications is now extensively used in the industry. ... Shape optimization is also of importance in future product development.
The best examples for morphing in automobile is the design of Suzuki Swift and the Swift Dzire, Honda Brio and Honda Amaze.
.
From the above figure we can see that the structure beyond the C Pillar of the Swift is morphed.
Procedure:
- Import .IGS file to ANSA.
- Geometry Cleanup and Topology
- Performing Morphing techniques on the given Component.
- Split Morphing Boxes
PROCEDURE:
Step 1:
Import .IGS file to ANSA
- Import the .IGS file into ANSA.
- Set the length as 1mm in mesh mode.
MESH > PERIMETER > LENGTH
Fig 1.1
Step 2:
Geometry Cleanup and Topology
- Check for the geometry errors in the checks manager as shown in Fig 2.1.
CHECKS > GEOMETRY > EXECUTE
- Eliminate all the errors from geometry and make it a error free geometry as shown in
Fig 2.1.
Fig 2.2.
Step 3:
Performing Morphing techniques on the given Component.
- Go to Morphing Module
- Create a Morphing Box at the places where the Morphing as to be performed.
MORPHING > NEW > ORTHO > GEOMETRY
- Morphing Box is created represented in green box as shown in Fig 3.1.
- Now, the desired shape and size can be made by moving the box in the required direction.
MORPHING > MOVE
- The control points Movement tab will open. Select the Coordinate to move and also the axis in which direction morphing should perform.
- On Confirmation, the morphing box will start to change shape and size as shown in Fig 3.2.
Fig 3.1.
Fig 3.2.
Step 4 :
Split Morphing Boxes
- Create the Morphing Box as diccussed earlier.
- Activate the BOXES > SPLIT function. Select with the right mouse button (right button implies the selection of an existing Point and not the creation of a new one).
- ANSA splits the Morphing Box in two. Zooming in close you can see the thick lines implying tangency condition in this direction as shown in Fig 4.1.
- Activate BOX MORPHING > MOVE command to perform morphing operation. and is shown in Fig 4.2.
Fig 4.1.
Fig 4.2.
- Once the Morphing is performed, delete the morphing Box .
MORPHING MODE > BOXES > DELETE
Learning Outcomes:
1)Understanding the ANSA GUI.
2)Interpolation of product design in the industry.
3)Creating morphing boxes.
4)Moving the morphing coordinates in order to get required shape.
Conclusion:
The basics of morphing and its uses in the industries is realised which can be used to change the shape of any component.
