Week 5
Challenge Name:- REAR VIEW MIRROR
Aim :-
To check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element Quality criteria using tetra elements.
Procedure:-
- Import .IGS file into ANSA
- Geometry check up and topology.
- Defeaturing.
- Surface meshing
- Defining the volume.
- Volume meshing.
- Check for quality criteria.

Step 1:-
Import .IGS file into ANSA
Import the given model into ANSA work bench as shown in figure 1.1 and define the perimeter length to 1.00 mm as shown in figure 1.2.
MESH MODE > PERIMETER > LENGTH > PERIMETER.
FIG 1.1
FIG 1.2
Step 2:-
Geometry cleanup and Topology
- In this step the ANSA checks for the geometry of the component and shows up popup screen, if any errors are found as shown in figure 2.1.
TOOLS > CHECKS > GEOMETRY > EXECUTE.
- If any errors are found, do the necessary actions to make the component error free before going for the next step as shown in figure 2.2.

FIG 2.2
Step 3:-
Defeaturing:-
- In this step, delete all the unwanted cons, faces and ensure that the distance between the 2 cons are more than the given target length to prevent minimum length error.
- Change the perimeter length to the given target length.
MESH MODE > PERIMETER > LENGTH.
Step 4:-
Surface meshing:-
- Change the visualisation from Topo mode to Mesh mode.
- Enter the Mesh parameters and quality criteria as shown in figure 3.1 and figure 3.2 respectively.
UTILITIES > MESH PARAMETERS
- For the given solid component use Ortho Tria for curved surfaces and normal trias for flat surfaces.
- Mesh the given component.
MESH GENERATION > SPOT MESH

FIG 3.4
Step 5:-
Defining the volume:-
- Change the visualisation from Mesh mode to Volume Mesh mode.
- Define the volume of the component as shown in figure 4.1 and figure 4.2.
VOLUME MESH>DEFINE>MANUAL/AUTO.
FIG 4.1
FIG 4.2
Step 6:-
Volume Meshing :-
- After defining the volume of the component, mesh the required volume as shown in figure 5.1 and as shown in figure 5.2.
UNSTRUCTURED MESH>TETRA RAPID/TETRA FEM>SELECT ENTITY.
- Check for tetcollapse quality criteria and elimanate it by using move free option without creating kinks or dents.
MESH MODE > GRIDS > MOVE FREE
FIG 5.1
FIG 5.2
Step 7:-
Check for quality criteria:-
- After slid meshing, check for tetcollapse quality criteria and elimanate it by using move free option without creating kinks or dents.
-
MESH MODE > GRIDS > MOVE FREE
Learning Outcomes:-
- Geometrical cleanup and topoplogy of solid component
- Defeaturing
- Overview of ortho tria and meshing of 3D component
- Defining volume of the component
- Tetra meshing
Thus the volume meshing is done for the given component.
