Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge
Assignment-5: Week 6
Objective: To mesh the car hood with mesh criteria as below

Procedure:
- Upon importing the hood.hm model, we can see that it consists of four different parts
- Inner Extract
- Outer Extract
- Hinge Reinforcement
- Latch Reinforcement
- All these parts need to be individually meshed and placed in different components so that we can assign respective material properties and thickness
Meshing Inner Extract
- To start working on inner extract, isolate inner extract component so that all the rest are hidden
- Next extract the mid-surfaces for the component and rename the it with suitable name
- It can be seen that there are many unnecessary edges on the model
- Geometric cleanup is done to toggle all the unnecessary edges, unnecessary points are suppressed, washer splits are created around holes are other features

- Before starting the mesh ensure there are no free edges
- Once geometry cleanup is done, then start meshing the component
- Use mixed mesh with element size of 5 units
- To start with meshing, start from the outer surfaces and then move towards inner surfaces for meshing

- To improve the quality use optimize elements, smooth elements, move trias in quality index panel
- Further mesh can be improvised by using align nodes, associating nodes with edges, moving nodes etc
- Ensure all the mesh quality criterias are satisfied
- The tria elements are 5.6%
Meshing Outer Extract
- Isolate the outer extract component, extract mid-surface and rename the mid surface component
- Ensure there are no free edges on the component
- The unnecessary edges on the mid surface needs to be toggled.

- For better mesh control to get maximum quad elements split the surfaces in rectangular blocks
- Mesh the component with same parameters as used for meshing on inner extract

- It can be seen that the mesh satisfies all the quality criteria
- Total tria elements are 0.89%
Meshing Hinge Reinforcement
- Hinge Reinforcement contains to mirror-symmetry components
- Extract mid-surface for one of the component.
- The mid-surfaces need to be then splitted in rectangular blocks to get good mesh
- Create washer split around the cutouts

- The component is the meshed to obtain mesh as below

- Total number of triangular elements are 3.5%
- Reflect mesh option can be then used to create the mesh for other symmetric component
Meshing Latch Reinforcement
- Extract mid-surfaces of latch reinforcement component
- Toggle the unnecessary edges
- Split the geometry into appropriate block

- Upon meshing the component with 5 unit as an element size. The mesh obtained is as below:

- Total tria elements are 2.5%
