Challenge

Week - 6 - Creating the GUI for final checks

Objective:

This challenge objective is to combine all actions needed to clear model from entities not nessary for simulation. Those include geometries such as: points, lines, surfaces, solids. After that all unused and empty collectors/entities are found and deleted. Eventually last step is reordering and renumbering of left fea entities. Each step can be done separately, or by one click on Master button.

Problem Statement:

When clearing geometric entities, only non-topological entities should be marked to delete (ex. free points, free edges), when it comes to surfaces or solids deleting those must not affect mesh created on those entities. Empty or unused can be accessed in a form of nested list, removing them should be performed after clearing redundant geometric entities. After initial clean-ups model should be reordered and renumbered to keep ids in order. All mentioned above checks should be done after each other in order to end up with model containing only FEA entities

Tcl command explanation:

Script creates gui that is divided into sections, first section clears geometry, second section clears empty or unused, next section is reordering and renumbering, last part executes all above in right order. After each grey button click, message is presented in command line, containing information about performed actions.

In first section user can choose geometric entities to delete, when checked proc CheckGeomList updates list $GeomList with names (points, lines, surfaces, solids), that are passed to ClearGeometry procedure to execute deletion. Proc ClearGeom switches between entities as marked in checkboxes. For points and lines only free non-topological ones are selected to delete, with surfaces and solids *deleteelementsmode is set to delete those without deleting mesh.

Next section has main button in gray background to search for empty and unused in model. Found entities are printed in command line. Deleting is possible for empty or unused separately, or all empty and unused are deleted by one button click.

When all above were performed model can be reordered and renumbered by clicking button in next section. Reordering is performed on assemblies and components. Renumbering is done on all entities.

The last section contains red Master button, when clicked all actions take place in following order: All geometric entities are passed to ClearGeometry procedure -> Empty and unused are found -> All empty and unused are deleted -> Model is reordered and Renumbered -> Message in command line summarizes all performed actions.

Conclusion:

This gui provides a user with scripts to check model before final export. All requirements mentioned in this task have been covered. Functionality of this script covers most of nessary actions to be made before exporting model to solver.
