Week 5 Sphere pressing on a plate
SPHERE PRESSING ON A PLATE
OBJECTIVES
In this challenge, we have to perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate by using Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non-Linear. Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it.
PROCEDURE
- First, we have to input the engineering materials with required properties or else by creating with required properties.

- Then we have to import our model into ansys, import the model and open it in space claim so that ansys will read it.

- Then create symmetry on both side of the sphere and plate to ensure the result to be complete sphere.

- Then assign required connections in this assignment we will use frictional contact between the sphere and plate.

- Next Step is to mesh the model with mesh size of 1 mm

- Set-up Analysis setting with fixed support and displacement.

- Fixed bottom surface of plate

- Next step is give of displacement of -4 mm

RESULT
Total Deformation on Y-Axis:-

Equivalent Stress :-

Equivalent Strain :-

Conclusion :-
From the above results, we can conclude that the stresses and strain are maximum in the plate at the maximum contact region. It can be seen that the plate does not retract to its original shape after deformation since it reaches the plastic region
