Week- 5 - Solid meshing

  • AIM : - For given Rear view mirror component check the geomentry and do soild meshing following by shell meshing in surface of component with given element quality criteria.
  • Objective :-

       * Used tria and ortho tria element for shell meshing.

       * Check only minimum length and maximum length element quality for shell element.

       * check tet collapse for 3D element.

       * element quality criteria for meshing the given component.

  •  Procedure :-

        * import the given model :

        * Frist we import the model in ANSA ( File - open - select file - ok)

        * The whole component having 4 subcomponents with separate PID's.

        * After importing the model do topo operation so all single cones are removed.

       * Check the geometry :

       * For check thr geomtry we check one by one all components separately.( Tools -check - geometry )

       * if errors are show in check manager we have fix it.

       * Some errors are clear by ANSA and some which can not clear  by ansa that errors  are cleared manually.

        * in this way we check our geometry and clear the issues.

  • set the orient of  model :

       * All surface should be in same orient for better results of simulation.( topo - faces - orient)

      * Improve the resolution of model :

      * For improve the resolution we go to mesh module and selecting  length in the perimeter section. we will then need to select the  model and assign a 1 mm length for perimeter and macros. this improves the resolution of the model.

     * Mesh generation with quality parameters :

      * Before start the meshing we have to set the given quality criteria and mesh parameters as show in below image.

  •   shell meshing :

      * In this model we have to do shell meshing in surface of component.

      * There are 4 components un this moodel so we mesh all the components seperatly.

      * before meshing we have to check the geometry and do proper defearyring operation for maintain the given element quality.

      * for flat surfaces which is not soo  complicated meshing with tria elements and curved surface are meshing eith Ortho tria elements ,( mesh generation -spot mesh)

     * for better mesh generation we use reconstruct  tool and smooth option.

     * for small qualitry criteria failure are present in model .we use to reconstruct and smoth option which solve the failed elements problem and generate better mesh flow.

     * final meshed components -

  * in complete meshed model there are no off elements present.

  •    solid meshing -

  * after getting a proper shell for the component we can go ahead for soild meshing.

  * First we have to define the volume to each component.

  * for define volume we go to volume - define  and click on ok it will detected automatically volumes separately.

  * the volume are successfully detected  for all the 4 components ( volume - list)

  * volume are creted and status is unmeshed.

  * we can see that in below image after creating the volume ANSA automatically generated tha PID's

  * after that we go for soild meshing with individual components volume ( volume mesh - unstructure mesh - tetra rapid - select volume ).

  * next we need to check the soild elements to see if any fail for the tet collapse criteria by switching to hidden mode. there are two ways to fix tet collapse failures one is by using the fix collapse tool from volume mesh module ( improve > fix quality ) .but in this way the surafce elements are get distrurbed.

  * other method to solve the tet collapse failed elements is move free the elements in desired axis to clear the quality.

  * in this way we do soild meshing for all 4 components one by one

  * soild meshing done

  * for checking failed elements - activated  shadow mode -

  * we can see that image there are no off elements are present.

  * final meshed model -

  •   Result :

      * the given rear view mirror component  is completely meshing ( soild meshing).

  • learning outcomes :-

       * learn how to do soild meshing and assign the volume for soild.

       * learn how to fix the tet collapse failure elementsw.

  •  conclusion : -  the given rear view mirror model had been successfully meshing with 3D element followed by geometryb cleanup and shell meshing.
