Week 5 Challenge : Surface wrap on Automotive Assembly

WEEK 5 CHALLENGE: DETAILED REPORT

INTRODUCTION:

Surface wrapping is a type of meshing. It is mainly using for complex geometries so that we can save time. In case of combination of geometries also we are using surface wrapping.

In surface wrapping we need not to mesh any internal parts and need not to assign any PIDs, so that it is very simple meshing method comparing to the surface meshing methods.

Before doing surface wraping we need to close all openings in the geometry.

Surface wrapping will provide a watertight mesh, so that there will not be any leakage.

AIM:

Clean up the geometrical errors for surface wrapping, merge all the three given geometries and do surface wrapping with 5mm length.

PROCEDURE:

(1) Download three given geometry file into the system.

(2) Open the engine geometry file in ANSA

(3) When opening in ANSA.

(4) Deleting unwanted portions.

(5) Some overlapped surfaces.

(6) Hide all engine parts, so that we can delete all unwanted parts.

(7) After deleting many unwanted rings we get geometry like below

(8) Some overlapping surfaces.

(9) Some unchecked portions need to delete.

(10) TRIPPLE CONS NEEDS TO DELETE.

(11) Tripple cons removed.

(12) All tripple cons removed from this view.

(13) All tripple cons removed from this view also.

(14) All tripple cons removed here also.

(15) In this view also all tripple cons removed.

(16)From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(17)From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(18)From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(19)From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(20)From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(21) From this view of engine geometry all tripple cons and single cons removed.

(22) Now opened the transmission part for cleanup and done geometry cleanup.

(23) Then opened the gear box for geometry cleanup and done geometry cleanup.

(24) Then merge all three geometries together.

(25) Then selected wrapping option and given 5mm length for wrapping.

(26) Finally surface wrapping done for the geometry as shown given below.

(27) Here it is a cross section which include both geometry and surface wrap.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

* Learned how to do surface wrapping

* Learned the purpose doing wrapping.

* Learned the difference between surface mesh and surface wrapping.

* Learned how to cleanup the external geometrical errors for wrapping.

* Learned how to merge geometries.

RESULT:

*Done external geometry cleanup for all given geometries.

* Merging done with all three geometries.

* Finally surface wrapping done with 5mm length for the geometry.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, I learned about surface wrapping and what is it's purpose. Also, surface cleanup and merging done and finally surface wrapping also done with 5mm length.
