Week 5 Challenge

1)

Ans: False.

in the scenario where an aggressive driver is accelerating very rapidly and braking harshly, the instantaneous power which should be provided by the source need to be high. The ability of the source to provide instantaneous power is determined by the power density (or specific power) parameter of the source. The battery has low power density compared to the UC (ultracapacitor). The power density of capacitor can be more than 10times that of battery, so during these types of scenario powering the drivetrain by UC is recommended.

The power density comparison of battery and UC is given below

From the graph we can conclude that the lead acid battery has higher cell voltage than the nickel cadmium battery and nickel metal hydride battery it can be used to as backup power in many appliances.

If we compare Nickel cadmium and Nickel Metal Hydride battery they have same cell voltage but different energy density , The Nickel metal hydride battery has more energy density than ultracapacitor , nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride battery it means that this battery will work or supply more energy for a longer amount of time period but it can run heavy appliances on it.

The lithium ion battery has higher cell voltage and even higher energy density , it can deliver more energy for a longer time and due to higher cell voltage the no. of cell used will be less ehich will make light in weight , which is suitable for EVs.

The Ultracapacitor has more cell voltage then lead acid , metal hydride and nickel cadmium battery but less energy density as compared to all other types of batteries. Which means that the Ultracapacitor will not work for a longer time.
3) ans

Here we can see that the Ultracapacitor has the highest Power Density as compared to rest of the batteries or the chemical storage devices. The ultracapacitor is capable to provide a higher power density whenever required by the system .
