Week 5 Bending of iPhone

Objective: Case 1: To simulate the model as it is given in the video

Case 2: To move the bottom fingers from their defined position to the given position X= 22.5mm & Z= 10mm and also define the S-N curve for the Aluminium Alloy material as per values given above. Obtain the following results for the simulation.

  • Obtain the directional deformation for the model
  • Factor of Aluminium Alloy NL
  • Life of the Aluminium alloy for the case
  • Compare the results and present with the conclusion.

Setup:

Engineering data:

Structural steel material

1) Aluminium alloy N L (defined SN data)

2) Polyethylene

3) Glass (defined properties)

4) Structural steel

Geometry:

  • exported file of iphone bending.x_t
  • shifted the below fingers by position X= 22.5mm & Z= 10mm from existing position

Model:

Geometry: renamed all parts and materials. display= Glass, Frame= Alluminum alloy NL, Inside = Polyethylene and Fingers= Structural steel.

Coordinate system: no change

Connections:

Contacts: As per video tutorial

Joints: As per video tutorial

Mesh:

  • 4mm mesh to Pushing fingers (4 faces) and frame surface (1 face)

Static structural:

  • Analysis setting
  1. Number of steps = 08
  2. Solver type = direct
  3. Week springs = program controlled
  4. Auto time stepping= program controlled
  5. Large deflection: on
  6. Stabilization : constant
  7. Energy dissipation : 0.1
  8. Activation for first substep = yes
  9. Output controls = All yes
  • Fixed support

Two faces of Frame

  • Displacement

Side faces of Frame tabular data in X, and Z components. Values put in X direction and in Z component only, Y is free. All values 0 in X and Z component

  • Joint Displacement

Transational: Ground to pushing finger, DOF: X displacement, Magnitude: Tabular data

  • Joint Displacement 2

Transational: Ground to pushing finger, DOF: X displacement, Magnitude: Tabular data

Solution 1:

CASE 1:

1) Equivalent stress

2) Equivalent Elastic Strain

3) Directional Deformation

CASE : 2

1) Equivalent stress

2) Equivalent Elastic Strain

3) Directional Deformation

4) Fatigue life

5) Safety Factor
