3D MESH GENERATION ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR MODEL

OBJECTIVE:

• To cleanup the geometrical errors.
• To generate shell elements on the surface of the model.
• To define volume and to mesh the volume.

GIVEN MODEL:

PROCEDURE:

1. Performing geometry cleanup. Checking for the geometrical errors and correcting them using automtic and manual fixing methods.
2. Use the topo option on the model.
3. Assign perimeters and macro perimeters. The target size is 1 mm.
4. Now, define mesh parameters and the quality criteria.
5. Start meshing the fillets and other round surfaces using ortho tria elements.
6. Mesh the other surfaces using tria elements
7. Perform mesh reconstruction if required.
8. Check for the element quality errors and correct them.
9. Now, define the volumes using the define option in the volume mesh and then use the automatic volume defining method.
10. After defining the volume, generate mesh on the volume using Tetra FEM / Tetra Rapid method.
11. Now, check for the element quality errors and fix the quality error.
12. Define property card for the new volumes.

CONCLUSION:

• Successfully performed surface meshing using tria/ortho-tria elements.
• Extracted 3 different volumes from the model.
• The rear view mirror model has been successfully meshed satisfying the quality criterias.
• The total number of elements in the model is 1224337.
