Solid Meshing of the Car Rear Mirror using ANSA Workbench
Challenge Name:Rear View Mirror
Aim:To mesh the Given Solid Component considering all the given Quality Criteria.
Procedure:
1)Importing .IGS file into the ANSA
2)Geometrical error check and Topology
3)Defeaturing
4)Surface Meshing
5)Defining the Volume
6)Volume Meshing
7)Check for Quality Criteria
Given Quality Criteria:

Procedure:
1)Importing .IGS file into the ANSA
Import the Given rear veiw mirror into the ANSA Workbench as shown in the fig 1.1 and change the perimimeter length to 1mm(Mesh Mode>Permieter>Length>Perimeter) as shown in fig 1.2
Fig 1.1 Imported .IGS file into ANSA
Fig 1.2 perimeter length Change to 1mm
2)Geometrical Cleanup and Topology
a) In this step we need to check the geomtery of the Component and Check for the errors(Tools>Checks>Geometry>Execute).Ansa Will check for the triple Cons,Un inturupeted faces,Collapsed Faces and Cracks etc.
Fig 2.1 Geometrical Errors
b)Solve the errors by releasing the triple Cons,Deleting the faces or applying topology wherever required and make the component error free before goin to the Meshing Process. In this Component all the Errors are Auto Fixed by ANSA.
Fig 2.2 Geometrical Cleaned Up
3)Defeaturing
In this step Change the Perimter Lenghth withe reference to the Given Quality Criteria i.e. Average Length=1mm in this Component.(Mesh Mode>Perimeters>Length).Delete all the unwanted Cons.Faces and Ensure the distance between the Two Cons are more than given target length.
4)Surface Meshing:
- Switch from Topo Mode to Mesh Mode
- Enter the Mesh Prameters (Utilities>Mesh Parameters) as in fig 4.1 and Quality Criteria(Utilities>Mesh Parameters) as in fig 4.2
- For the Solid Component Use the Ortho Tria for curved surfaces and Normal Trias for Flat Surface.
fig 4.1 Mesh Parameters
fig 4.1 Quality Criteria
- Start the Meshing on the Surface.(Mesh Generation>Spot Mesh).
fig 4.3 Spot Mesh
fig 4.4 Spot Mesh
5)Defining the Volume:
- Go to Voume Mesh Mode from the Mesh Mode
- Define the Volume of the Component(Vol Mesh>Define>Manual/Auto)
fig 5.1 Definining the Volume
6)Volume Meshing:
There are 2 types of Volume Meshing.
1)Structured Mesh:A structured mesh is defined as a mesh where the inner nodes have the same number of elements around them.
2)Unstructured Mesh:Unstructured meshes are meshes with general connectivity (GCON) whose structure is arbitrary and therefore the connectivity of elements must be defined and stored.
Now, Once after defiing the Volume we need to mesh the Volume.(Unstructured Mesh>Tetra Rapid/FEM>Select the Entity).
fig 6.1 Tetra FEM Mesh
fig 6.2 Sectional View
7)Check for Quality Criteria:
After Solid MEsh we need to check the given quality critria i.e. Tet Collapse =0.2(Utilities>Quality Criteria>Solids>Collpase>0.2)
Learning Outcomes:
1)Geometrical Cleanup and topology of solid component.
2)Defeaturing of Solid Component.
3)Overview of Ortho trias and meshing of 3D Component.
4)Defining the Volume for the Component
5)Tetra Meshing of the Volume.
Thus the Volume meshing is completed for the Given Rear Mirror Component using ANSA Workbench and is ready to give for solver.
